A Return to Character Design

So it looks like the end of May was the climax of 2007. Not only was it my 25th birthday on the 29th, but it also worked out to be the time when I had 6 contracts completed within a few days of eachother.

The Transform Your Summer promotion, definitely the largest undertaking of the year (or ever, for that matter) is all but finished. Just a few more tweaks and a bit more animation to do.

On top of that was a flash game, a 3D effects contract, a short illustration contract and designs for two Nelvana animated series (one will be on-air in September, the other is still in development).

So far the summer looks relaxing. I've got some potential character design contracts lined up both here in Canada and in the U.S., and I plan on spending a lot of time rededicating myself to my series pitches as well as a script I'm writing for an animated film.

Today was the first day I was able to sit down and draw a character just for fun from start to finish without knowing that I'd be losing that much more sleep because I wasn't working. It's a good feeling ... I think I'm going to chase that feeling.

So here it is. Quite a bit of Steve Lambe influence in this one, especially in the proportions. He's one of my favourite character designers and I doubt I'm really doing him justice.

So look forward to more fun stuff from me, as opposed to months of silence...

cheers
