Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted anything in months ... and months ... and months. I've been crazy busy in my new role as Animation Director at Spin here in Toronto. Yep ... got me a title and erverything.

Got confirmation yesterday that I'm going to have a booth in Artist's Alley at the 2009 San Diego ComiCon!

I'm pretty psyched since I was expecting it to be a couple of years before I would get in. I'm also freaked out because my sketchbook which I would love to show off there isn't done yet. Yikes...

Anyways, hopefully I can find some time between work, freelance and some other things I need to clear off my plate to do some drawing ... and some posting ... on this blog.

I've posted my cover artwork on a bunch of forums, including conceptart.org, cgtalk, and the drawingboard and everyone seems really positive about it. Thanks for taking the time to view it and comment. I'm definitely going to be focusing more in the direction of that style from now on, at least for my personal work.

I've spent the last few years kind of floating when it comes to what my 'style' is. Not having one came in handy for work, since I could do whatever the client wanted, but I found it difficult to really look at my work and think of it as mine.

Anyways, here are some sketches from the Sunday Subway Sketch Group which I actually attended this week (and hope to make into a regular habit).

I've been quietly working away on my 'art of brett' book that I'm hoping to get printed sometime in 2009. I've got about 55 pages right now, and I'm hoping to have 72 pages when it's finished. I ordered a test print and am now going through and making any changes and corrections to what's there. Here are a couple photos:

I still have to wait a while for some of my most recent designs to be released before I can print. But I'm hoping to at least bring a few copies with me to Comic Con this summer.

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. It's been a pretty crazy month work-wise. I designed the characters for two new shows (which I can't show yet ... booo), did the next issue of Sushi and prepped for a couple upcoming projects. One of those projects is a series of animated shorts!

There's a bit of a lull now so I was able to get some personal illustrations done recently.

This is a samurai girl I illustrated last night and this morning.

And this one was an illustration I did for Andrea and I's 3rd anniversary. She really likes photo booths.

I'm starting to watch some Massive Black and Gnomon tutorial videos in an attempt to get awesome at drawring by the end of the year. Everything I've seen so far talks about the importance of doing lots of preliminary thumbnails and concept sketches before attempting a finished painting. I've got a concept in mind, and I plan on using the next few days to flesh out the designs further.

Comic-Con 2008 & Sketchbook Pro 2009

Comic-con was awesome this year. Met some great people, went to some great parties and got to pick up some really nice art books. Met Mark Hamill at the Gotham Group party. He's a cool guy, we chatted about the Batman animated series (he did the voice of the Joker).

Anyways, I picked up SBP 2009 a couple weeks ago. Tonight was the first time I could really sink my teeth into it (if only for an hour) and I really really like it. I'm putting together my sketchbook to sell next year, and I think I'm going to be adding a lot of digital sketches to it.

Diablo 3 was announced this week. That game, besides being fairly hack & slashy, always sparked my imagination and resulted in lots of artwork, both fanart and otherwise.
